The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body and is also one of the most important ones. The biliary system consisting of the bile ducts and the gallbladder and also the pancreas are all closely associated with the functioning of the liver.

Liver is a smooth, cone-shaped, red-brown and rubbery, is situated in the upper right part of the abdomen where it is partly protected by the rib cage that is major and heaviest internal organ, weighing around 3.5 lb. The division of liver is into a large right lobe, subdivided into three sections, and a smaller left lobe that tapers towards a tip, which is in contact with the stomach, intestines and esophagus. There are various segments in these lobes like and they contain hundreds of cells prearranged like fine spokes glowing out from the central vein in a network of blood channels called sinusoids.

The term ‘liver disease’ applies to many diseases and disorders that cause the liver to function improperly or cease functioning also the abnormal results of liver function tests often suggest liver disease.

Which are the diseases?
Some liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases are inborn while others can be prevented. If these diseases are congenital, injury-related, viral-induced, or alcohol-induced, they can be devastating to a person's health and require professional care. More than 25 million people in the United States suffer from liver and gallbladder diseases, according to the American Liver Foundation whereas more than 43,000 die of a liver disease each year.

There are many types of liver disease and disorders that affect the liver. They are Cirrhosis, hepatitis, hemochromatosis, Wilson’s disease, liver cancer, liver disease due to alcohol, primary biliary cirrhosis, autoimmune hepatitis and fatty liver.

Now a person affected with autoimmune hepatitis has autoantibodies circulating in the bloodstream that cause the immune system to attack the liver causing dangerous affects to health.
About cirrhosis, it is the result of chronic liver disease that causes scarring of the liver and liver dysfunction also it has many complications, including accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, bleeding disorders, increased pressure in the blood vessels and confusion or a transformation in the level of consciousness.
Alcoholic liver disease usually occurs after years of excessive drinking and the longer the period of alcohol use as well as the greater the consumption of alcohol , the greater the chance of developing liver disease. And acute alcoholic hepatitis can result from binge drinking, and may be result to death if severe.
Another liver disease is Hemochromatosis that is caused due to absorption of too much iron from food and instead of secreting the excess iron; the iron is stored throughout the body, including the liver and pancreas. The excess iron can damage these organs and it is a hereditary disease that can lead to liver disease, liver failure, liver cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
Wilson’s disease is the retention of too much copper in the liver and instead of releasing the copper into the bile, the liver retains the copper. Finally the damaged liver releases copper into the bloodstream and this is also a hereditary disease that can cause damage to the kidneys, brain and eyes, and lead to severe brain damage, liver failure and death.
Liver tumors are also one type of disorder which are abnormal masses of tissue that form when cells begin to reproduce at an increased rate and due to this the liver can grow both noncancerous and cancerous tumors.

What are the symptoms of liver disease?
The symptoms of liver disease are upper right abdomen pain, swelling in upper right abdomen, abdominal pain extends to shoulder and back, swollen abdomen, enlarged liver, weight loss, loss of appetite, feeling of fullness, weakness, fatigue, nausea, malaise, fever, vomiting, jaundice which includes symptoms like yellow skin, yellow eyes, darker urine and fluid retention.

Preventive measures:

If one has to get rid of liver problems it is essential that one should have a proper treatment once the problem is detected. Drinking alcohol in excess creates a lot of problems and also it is seen that if one is prone to administer drugs then it can make worse the problem quite easily. Medicines should be taken only as directed and the people who are having the problem of hepatitis should take special care as it can be a problem for them in future if the liver does not function properly. Obesity is the reason for a multiple problems as it can ruin the entire health and hence one is advised to have a control on it.
