All stress isn’t bad instead stress is a fact of life. Stress can start change, help us focus on the task at hand, and in some cases even save our lives but when stress builds up, it can result in the opposites i.e. we are more vulnerable to colds, flu, and a host of chronic or life-threatening illnesses. So it’s very essential to manage your stress and the first tip in managing stress is to recognize your stressors. The next step is to put each of them in their place and following.
Here are some techniques how you can manage your stress:
* Notice your stress and even your physical and emotional reactions:
Never ignore your distress. Don't just run away from your problems but try to resolve what events distress you. Go depth to those meanings and determine how your body responds to the stress.
* Try to recognize what you can change: Recognize what you can change by devoting the time and energy necessary to making a change like goal setting, time management techniques, and delayed gratification strategies may be helpful here.
* Reduce your emotional reactions to stress:
The stress reaction leads you many a times to danger...physical danger or emotional danger or both. Try to work at adopting more moderate views where you see the stress as something you can cope with rather than something that overpowers you. Try to control or temper your excess emotions. Never be on the negative aspects and the forget "what if."
* Learn to moderate your physical reactions:
Moderate physical reactions to stress and Slow, deep breathing will bring your heart rate and respiration back to normal. By knowing different relaxation techniques on your own can reduce muscle tension and is a preferable long-term solution.
* Build your own physical reserves:
Moderate, prolonged rhythmic exercise is best, such as walking, swimming, cycling, or jogging for refreshment. It’s very essential to eat well-balanced, nutritious meals and maintain your ideal weight. Mix leisure with your work and take enough sleep. But avoid nicotine.
* Maintain your emotional reserves:
Having mutual relationships is very essential like friendships. Aim to pursue realistic goals which are meaningful to you. Never go in depression and always be kind and gentle with yourself i.e be a friend to yourself.
* Take a deep breath and count uptil 10: this tip is mostly used by everyone since Taking a deep breath or two adds oxygen to your system, which almost immediately helps you relax. Or stand up and stretch your body and count up to ten can also give you better relaxation.
* Just Say No that means trying to do everything is a one-way ticket to serious stress. You should be clear about your limits, and stop trying to please everyone all the time.
* Put it on the paper: writing provides perspective. Divide a paper in two parts and on the left side list the stressors you may be able to change while on the right, list the ones you can't and stop fretting over what you can’t change.
* Say a small prayer: people compared with those who profess no faith, religious and spiritual are calmer and healthier.
* Make some plans: looking forward to something provides calming perspective and for that you can schedule to go out for a picnic weekend or have an appointment for a massage.
* Space out: look outside the window and find some natural things that captures your imagination like look at the clouds or at trees or even the birds.
Always keep smiling:
The best medicine for a human is always keep smiling and laughing. For a moment you can forget your stress. Managing stress is very important if don’t learn to manage your stress you can harm yourself.
